Breaking News : Lassa Fever Kills 22 Years Old Woman In Calabar

A 22 years old woman, Itodo christabel,   have been confirmed dead from lassa fever on Wednesday in Calabar, capital city of Cross River State.

The deceased who took ill in Benue state reportedly went to an unknown hospital there where she requested to be referred to Eburutu Barracks clinic in Calabar to meet her husband who works with the military.


From Eburutu clinic, she was taken to the Navy Hospital, Calabar, where she was managed for some days before being referred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital where she died in less than 12hours.

A laboratory examination was carried out and it was confirmed positive that she died of viral Haemorrhagic Fever.

When contacted in a telephone conversation, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Thomas Agan confirmed the incident adding that there was no cause for alarm as the matter was under control.

Agan who refuted the claims that the deceased was on admission for days in the teaching hospital before her dead on Wednesday disclosed that she was rather managed in Navy hospital but brought to the hospital at a critical situation.



According to him, "There's no cause for alarm. The woman died less than 12 hours when she was brought to the teaching hospital. She was in Navy hospital all this while and was only brought here in a critical situation.

"We are just worried about our doctors and nurses who attended to her. We have quarantined them and will write officially to the health Minister and the Director, centre for disease control tomorrow".

The CMD added that "The whole thing is under control and there's no cause for alarm. The state government is in control of the situation and we have quarantined all our doctors and nurses who had contact with her"
