Tension In Odupkani As Two Gunned Down In Renewed Violence

Tension again mounts in the Odukpani Local Government area of Cross River State following renewed killings by rival factions of the Netim and Qua communities.

Palpable fear also ruled the scene when an Odukpani Qua son was slain in a farmland by the rival Netim warlords.

The development triggered manhunt for the assassins' kinsmen by the Qua people resulting in a reprisal.

Two persons were reportedly killed as at yesterday's fresh fighting which has triggered tension and uncertainty in the council headquarters.

A detachment of Security and Military personnel have been deployed to the area to forestall further bloodletting.

Members of the two communities who have co-habited for long have been at daggers drawn following a protracted kingship and land tussle.

The squabble has defied all possible solutions to quell it.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo who confirmed the incident said that the Police is working to restore peace in the area.

"Yes two people have been killed in Odukpani, we're working to restore peace in the area", She said.
