The state Information Commissioner, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong disclosed this during a meeting with members of ACROJ in Calabar.
Mrs. Archibong who described online Journalists as enhancers of
news reportage in terms of speed and reach added that it was necessary for young people to be trained on social media management where they access the online media.
While disclosing that each of them would be an ambassador to visit
schools to talk about social media journalism, she called on them to make
themselves online media mentors to educate the masses also on the ills and advantages of the social media.
The Commissioner who said online Journalism makes information dissemination cheaper and easily accessible commended members of ACROJ for their dedication and zeal in
projecting the State positively without
compromising the ethics of the profession.
The Commissioner noted that the manner in which a story is reported
can either make people pick up arms or embrace peace, even as she urged journalists to present reports that will bring value addition to the State and
the Nation at large.
According to her ''a large percentage of the followers of online media
are the youths who run with everything they see on the internet, believing them to be true therefore I charge you all to nurture and galvanize the information reported in the right perspective.
"The Ministry of Information and Orientation in conjunction with ACROJ will carry out enlightenment activities on Media Literacy for Youths with
emphasis on Social Media Management".
Speaking, ACROJ Chairman, Hope Obeten commended the
Commissioner for the meeting and pledged the commitment of members of his association to unbiased reporting.
Obeten assured that ACROJ members will remain objective in doing their jobs while ensuring that the State is well reported above all others in the country.
