Unical VC disowns Fake Facebook account

The Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar (Unical), Prof Zana Akpagu has disowned some ''fake'' Facebook accounts bearing his name and pictures.

The VC said the social media accounts were created by scammers to defraud the public on admission relate issues.

Akpagu in a statement on Monday urged the general public to disregard the account on facebook and other social media platforms even as he warned perpetrators to desist from such act or face the consequences.

The statement reads: “The attention of Prof. Zana Akapgu, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has been drawn to the existence of accounts on Facebook, operated by unscrupulous individuals asking unsuspecting people to chat privately on admission related issues and that the first batch of admission list of the institution has already been compiled.

This is the handiwork of mischief makers whose aim is to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Prof. Akpagu remain absolutely committed to the institution's core values of integrity, fairness and transparency, and would always follow due process in the admission of new students. As a reputable institution which stands tall, as one of the foremost tertiary institutions in the country, we would not in any way compromise standards for financial gains.

Members of the Public are hereby advised to disregard the statement by this faceless elements using unverified Facebook accounts to defraud unsuspecting public.
Unical publishes admission and other activities in the university website, newspapers and credible online platforms and not on social media platforms.”
