Effah, Popular Ghanaian Scholar Rates Akpagu High, Says He's a Goal-Getter

A Former Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education and President of the Radford University College at East Legon, Accra, Dr Paul Effah has described the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Zana Akpagu as a’ goal-getter ‘ who is in a hurry to achieve much within a short period of time.

Dr Paul Effah said his longing for training of the core leadership of the institution, timing of the event , prompt invitation of the trainer, and crave for excellence are glaring attestation of a high flyer who want result within the shortest possible time frame.

Dr Effah Who gave this frank assessment of the Vice Chancellor when he paid the UNICAL helmsman a courtesy call in his office prior to the commencement of a one day workshop on Leadership, where he was the guest Speaker opined that training at leadership level has become very critical as tertiary institutions in the country and Africa as a continent are facing peculiar leadership challenges threatening the very existence of the ivory towers.

The Guest Speaker said there was need for universities to imbibe some globally acceptable leadership practices to move them away from the brink of collapsing.

The Former Executive Secretary who is also a a Consultant on Higher Education Administration and Management identified Universities as veritable platforms for creating and sustaining enviable leadership management skills to attract other Millennium Development Agencies (MDA’S) who see universities as role models.

The President of Radford University College made a passionate appeal to the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL to ensure that all Staff and Students are properly integrated into his leadership drive adding that his aggressive transformational approach will certainly attract more attention to the institution.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Zana Akpagu described the visit of the Lead and guest speaker as the “fulfilment of a dream” conceived in a distant land while on an official working visit to Israel.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for prompt leadership training to raise efficient and effective leaders with the intent of injecting a new lease of life and proficiency to the ailing administrative system in some universities.
