C'River retirees receive gratuities after five years

Cross River State Governor, Senator Ben Ayade
After several years of protest over the nonpayment of the entitlement of pensioners, the Cross River State Government yesterday commenced the payment of gratuities to some retirees in the state.

It will be recalled that the state wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress last month berated the Governor, Ben Ayade over nonpayment of arrears amounting to billions of naria to pensioners.

Although the state has been up to date regarding the payment of pensions to its retirees, gratuities and other  entitlements have constantly put the government at loggerhead with the Labour unions in the state.

But the government has moved quickly to address the issue by commencing the payment of gratuities.

It is however understood that those who got cheques yesterday for their gratuities belong to the 2013 set who retired five years ago.
