Two Feared Dead As Cultists Takeover Cross River Community

Residents of Iso-Bendege in Boki Local Government area of Cross River have flew their community as cultists have allegedly  taken over the area.

The deadly cults clash between two unidentified cult groups which started yesterday evening has reportedly left two people dead.

One of the victims, Ada, who informed a friend residing in Calabar through text message said that members of the community are currently hiding in the bush for fear of being killed by the rampaging cultists.

Ada disclosed that the cultists have bunt down houses and are killing anybody insight, a development which has forced people to fly with their families to bushes for safety.

According to her text message, "Please don't call me, I can't talk for fear of being find out. There is a cult war in the community and we are all in the bush.

"They are burning down our houses and they are killing anybody in sight. I don't know how many people they have killed but as at yesterday before we ran out of the village, two persons were already dead."

When contacted, Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP. Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident saying that Police and other security forces have been deployed to the community to restore peace.

She said that two persons have been killed from one of the cult groups and a Policeman was shot.

"The Police is aware of of the incident, I think it is a cult related issue but by the grace of God, we have been able to deploy our men of PMS, even our conventional men are also there to make sure the area is calm.

"As hard as it is, when our men were deployed earlier, they were attacked and one Policeman was shot but nevertheless, as I am talking to you, the area is calm. Military personnel have also been deployed there ", she said.
