Supreme Court orders INEC to create electoral Constituency in Bakassi

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should create a constituency that will accommodate the interest of the people of Bakassi in Cross River State.

In a lead judgement, Justice John Okoro ordered INEC to do the needful.

The court however, set aside the judgement of the court of appeal which had earlier ruled that the state law can compel INEC to create constituency.

This judgement puts to rest any legal argument that the State law could have a bounding effect on Independent National Electoral Commission.
