BREAKING : Unical to become First Nigerian University with World Standard Weather Station

The University of Calabar, Unical is likely to become the first University in Nigeria to have a Weather Station that meets the Standard of World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Fearless Reports can authoritatively report.
Weather station is a device that collects data related to the weather and environment using many different sensors.
Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the umbrella body that deals with weather and climate related issue in the country has selected the University to conduct upgrading of existing Weather Station to world Standard.
In a letter signed by NiMet DG and Nigeria's Permanent Representative in WMO, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi and addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu, the installation, training and testing of the device is to commence with immediate effect.
According to the letter "Our fact finding has revealed that weather station across Nigeria Universities requires urgent attention to meet WMO standard and serve the purpose of climate monitoring, training, research and development. Thus, NiMet as as the Nodal Meteorological Agency in the country has decided to intervene in getting such stations upgraded.
Accordingly, I am glad to inform you that your university has been selected to benefit from the Agency's upgrading of Weather Station to WMO standard.
I am equally delighted to inform you that the NUC has been properly briefed on the project and have granted consent for us to intervene in your University. MiMet has therefore made all necessary logistical arrangements to commence the installation, testing and training with immediate effect".
Reacting, the VC, Prof. Akpagu expressed excitement over the development even as he commended NiMet for selecting Unical to benefit from the project.
He said Weather Station is top priority to the University even as he pledged his unflinching support and partnership with NiMet to ensure success of the project.
