No fewer than five people have been reportedly killed in the renewed communal clash between the Idia and Okpetumor communities of Ebonyi and Ofonekom, Ogamana, Idoru Ofonmana and Igitum in Obubra local government area of Cross River State.
The crisis according to sources is as a result of the ownership of some parcel of land currently owned by neighboring Obubra communities.
According to a report by Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) Journalist, Okan Peter, the clash has led to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
Okan alleged in his report that Idia and Okpetumor both in Ebonyi state have mobilized fully armed men with the instruction to kill anybody at sight, destroy properties as they ambush the affected Obubra communities.
The report also disclosed that the armed men who were on a mission of destroying and capturing the entire community were able hold four Obubra villages; Ofonekom, Ogamana, Idoru Ofonmana, Igitum and were gradually advancing towards Ogurude to hostage.
A signpost has reportedly been hoisted in the riverine communities in Obubra to show ownership of the land.
The Journalist maintained that almost all the affected communities have been deserted as almost the entire Obubra urban have been thrown into disarray.
Efforts to confirm the report from Police was unsuccessful at press time.
