BREAKING : President Appoints Ekpang DG of Radio Station

Veteran broadcaster and Head of Department of Mass Communication and Digital Media, University of Calabar, Dr. Joseph Ekpang has been appointed the new Director General of Radio Malabo.

Radio Malabo is a station owned by the University and operated by the Students' Union Government (SUG).

Announcing the appointment recently at Ekpang's office, President of the Union, Comrade Kelvin Eyam said that Ekpang's appointment was as a result of his wealth of experience in the media, especially the broadcast sector.

He said that after careful consideration of all options, the veteran broadcast journalist was chosen as the most qualified person with the wherewithal to revive the station.

Reacting, Dr. Ekpang thanked the President and SUG for the appointment even as he pledged to do his best to ensure the station becomes one of the best campus stations in the country.

He said "I'm honoured by this appointment. I will do my best to ensure our station becomes one of the best campus stations".

In a related development,  the UniCal SUG has conferred on Dr. Ekpang the award of excellence in innovation.

Presenting the award at a brief ceremony, the SUG President explained that the award was in recognition of the introduction of digital technology to the operations of his department.

In particular, the SUG President mentioned the installation of ICT-driven classroom, setting up of departmental institutional email and phone lines and the provision of Wi-Fi services in the department.

Comrade Eyam also noted that activities of the department are conducted online, while all academic staff have set up and are operating their institutional email addresses.

In his response, Dr. Ekpang, expressed appreciation to the Students' Union Government for the recognition and promised to continue to push boundaries in digital technology as it relates to teaching, learning and research.

He announced that from the Second Semester, Mass Comm students are expected to come along with their laptops since they will commence practical training at Hit FM and CRBC television.

He said he would like to dedicate the award to the hard working and committed staff and students of the department through whose cooperation the innovations were made possible.
