Akpagu restates commitment to enhancing academic exchange activities


The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana I. Akpagu has again restated his commitment to enhancing academic exchange activities that will ensure integrity and excellence in scholarship.

Prof. Akpagu stated this while receiving members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 44th Annual Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Society for Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NSGBT) who were in his office on a Courtesy Visit.

While thanking the LOC for the visit, the Vice Chancellor said, he also sees the conference as a way of showcasing the Institution to the larger world.

Also congratulating the Local Chapter of the Society for winning the hosting right, the varsity administrator pledged to assist the LOC as much as possible in ensuring the success of the conference even as he encouraged the organizers to continue doing  their best in putting Unical in the front burner of academic excellence.

In an earlier remark, the Chairman of the LOC, Dr. Marcus Inyama Asuquo while expressing his appreciation to the  Vice Chancellor for seeing them inspite of his tight schedule, said they were in his office to brief him about the conference and officially request him to be the host at the opening ceremony.

Dr. Asuquo further informed the Vice Chancellor that this particular confab will be a bit different from others in that, as part of the programme of event, there will be an award presentation to the Max Foundation of the USA which according to him will be represented by its President/CEO, Ms Pat Garcia-Gonzalez.

The LOC Chairman who also requested the Vice Chancellors approval for the use of some facilities in the Institution for the technical sessions opined that the Vice Chancellors presence at the opening ceremony will in no small measure spice up the confab because of the array of dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony.

According to him, the Honourable Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole is expected as the Special Guest of Honour, HRH, Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi II (CON) as Keynote Speaker and HRM the Obong of Calabar as Royal Father of the day.

The 44th Annual Conference which is billed for 29th -31st August, 2018 will feature some Pre-conference activities including a Medical outreach on the 22nd and Pre-conference Training on 27th and 28th August, 2018.

The LOC was accompanied on the visit to the Vice Chancellor by the Provost, College of Medical Sciences, Unical, Prof. Maurice E. Asuquo.
