Unical development : Akpagu has written his name in gold, popular assembly Speaker says

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Onofiok Luke has described the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu as a performing varsity administrator; just as he commended him for his efforts at nipping the menace of cultism in the bud.

Hon. Luke stated this while delivering a lecture on the topic, ‘’ Youth Migration in Africa, Causes and Effects’’, held at the University of Calabar International Conference Centre as part of activities to mark the 2018 Students Union Week Celebration.

He said the institution has soared higher in all ramifications since Prof. Akpagu took over the mantle of leadership, stressing that cultism which hitherto took centre in the institution has been wiped out.

The speaker said for the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by staff and students, as well as his development strides, Prof Akpagu has written his name in gold.

While commending the Vice Chancellor for being a ‘father and friend, he expressed delight with the cordial relationship existing between management and students even as he urged students to reciprocate by cooperating with management to move the institution to greater heights.

Hon. Luke also applauded the Vice Chancellor for providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning and described the massive infrastructural drive of his administration as phenomenal.

Speaking on the topic: ‘’ Youth Migration in Africa, Causes and Effects’’, the erudite lawmaker said Nigeria has the highest number of migrants in Europe, adding that youths constitute a large number of these migrants.

Hon. Luke who described the topic of the lecture as apt lamented that due to migration Nigeria has lost its skilled workers to other developed countries, stating that a functional and well-funded educational system in the country would go a long way in stemming the tide of youth migration.

Also speaking, President of the Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Kelvin Enyam hailed the student- friendly policies of the Vice Chancellor, whom, he described as a man of character and integrity.

He said under his watch, UNICAL has become distinct and conspicuous on the world map.

The SUG President said the Vice Chancellor has been carrying students along in the scheme of things, a cogent reason, the union will continue to support his administration.

Speaking while declaring the 2018 Students Week Open, the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL,Prof. Zana Akpagu described the speaker as a young man with high intellectual capacity, describing him as a shining example.
The Vice Chancellor said that Hon. Luke has been a source of inspiration to students even as he thanked him for being a good ambassador of the institution.

This came as he urged students to tap from the wealth of knowledge of the speaker and shun acts capable of jeopardizing their future ambitions.

While warning the students against joining clandestine groups, he said, ‘’ it is no longer fashionable to join cult because you don’t need it to excel in life.

‘’Be good ambassadors of UNICAL which is fast becoming an international brand. This institution has produced men and women of great repute’’

Earlier, the SUG President had led the speaker on a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor in his office.
