BREAKING : Unical VC bags new traditional title

Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Unical, Prof. Zana Akpagu has bagged a new traditional title of "ASHITUNDIYE of OBUDU". 

Over the weekend, the Bebuatsuan community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River conferred on him the title which is the highest traditional title in the community.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Eugene Akeh, said that the honour done Prof. Akpagu by the Community was based on  his outstanding virtues of generosity, hard work,  charity, commitment and his remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria in general.

Akeh, a former Director General, Nigeria Meterological Agency,  said the Vice-Chancellor is a man that stands by the truth and enjoined the younger generation to emulate his good works while thanking the Community for organising the civic reception in his honour.

Also speaking,  the Chairman, Bebuatsuan Development Association, Mr Agianpuye Francis Adie said the traditional title conferred on the Vice Chancellor means that his generosity and kindness knows no bounds and his love and care for all is without partiality.

He maintained that Prof. Akpagu's footprints, developmental strides and unprecedented transformation of the University of Calabar are not hidden and this has made him an iconic administrator.
 
He lauded the the Vice-Chancellor's vision of making Unical one of the highest ranking universities in Nigeria.

In his remarks, a former  member, House of Representatives, Mr Paul Ada, described Prof. Zana Akpagu as the pride of Obudu and a man with outstanding contributions that have impacted so many lives.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor thanked Bebuatsuan community  for the honour bestowed on him and also, thanked God for using him as a vessel to render services to humanity, adding that all the achievements recorded in the University are dedicated to his management team.

Highlights of the event was traditional dances, group protograph, presentation of gifts and food items as well as awards from various Groups.

The event was well attended by the University of Calabar community led by the Deputy Vice chancellor (Admin), Prof. Mrs. Lucy Udida, the Registrar Mr Moses Abang and the Bursar, Mrs. Beatrice Igwe.

Others who graced the occasion were Captains of Industries, Politicians, Clergy Men, Community leaders, women and youth groups, etc.
