Why APC Leaders boycotted Owan Enoh's governorship declaration, Utum Eteng

APC Chieftain, Chief Utum Eteng

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River state, Chief Utum Eteng has said that prominent APC leaders who boycotted Sen. John Owan Enoh's governorship declaration may have realised that he owe the state explanation/apology.

Eteng who was reacting to a report that prominent leaders of the party boycotted Sen. John Owan Enoh's governorship declaration yesterday said that it was wrong for the Senator who is from the same senatorial district with the immediate past Governor Liyel Imoke to join the race.

He advised stakeholders to allow justice equity and fairness not the amount of money dole out by aspirant prevail when determining who to flag the party's governorship flag in the 2019 election.

He argued that, the northern senatorial district should be allowed to do eight years like other senatorial districts but if impossible, a suitable person from the southern senatorial district should fly the party flag and not central again.

There have been cold war brewing in the rank of the opposition APC in Cross River over attempt by some party leaders to scuttle the zoning arrangement of the party.

The party had in 2014 zoned it governorship ticket to the north and being that APC operate an eight years zoning formula as witnessed in the just concluded convention where zoning was applied to fill party positions from national to wards, some members of the party have held that the northern zone of the state should retain the ticket.

Eteng is one of the APC leaders who hold such opinion.

"I suspect they (APC leaders) are beginning to understand that what we need in Cross River is an explanation if not an apology on why a Senate Leader (Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba) could be traded off for an ordinary Senator like Owan Enoh or why Okoi Obla was not cleared as a nominee of President Buhari to fill the position of the None Executive Commissioner on the Board of NCC when we have a senator from the Central Senatorially District.

"Perhaps, the elders have now reasoned that the leadership of the state should not be based on Ejagham, Atam or other sentiments.

The leaders may have stayed away that all the problems in the APC came from the central senatorial district .

Perhaps, also is because the elders have begin to realise the point that it would be morally wrong for aspirants to again come from the same district that only yesterday produced Gov Liyel Imoke some hours back.

They have come to the wisdom that if the north cannot give us matching candidate in view of the hard times the south can do it...

Perhaps, those our leaders who think only one aspirant has capacity which is a relative term to challenge an incumbent have the scales pull off their eyes.

Let justice, wisdom, honesty and truth prevail in this matter not the much money any aspirant doles out", he said.
