JUST IN : Ayade, C'River APC finally react to Achigbe's demise

Faction of the All Progressive Congress in Cross River State led my departed Chairman, Dr. Mathew Achigbe has finally reacted to his demise.

A statement by its publicity secretary, Mr. Bassey Ita officially declared the Chairman dead.

Ita said that "This is to officially announce the demise of the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Dr. Matthew Ojong Achigbe.

Dr. Achigbe according to reports, died yesterday morning in a fatal motor accident along Afikpo road in Ebonyi state.

His remains have been deposited at the Anatomy unit of the University of Calabar.

Details of plans to show last respect to the deceased will be further communicated by the party and the family".

In related development, Cross River State governor, Professor ben Ayade, has expressed sadness over the tragic death of Achigbe, a one-time Permanent Secretary in the state civil service

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, Governor Ayade said he received with shock the news about the death of Mr. Achigbe.

He described the late politician as "an elder statesman, a devout catholic and a community leader who lived a life of selflessness and dedication to the service of the state, his community and the church.

While lamenting the passing of the Obubra-born retired permanent secretary, he said words can scarcely comfort those he left behind.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this moment of unspeakable grief. The Cross River State Government shall work closely with his family to ensure he gets a befitting farewell," the statement quoted the governor.
