The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Zana Akpagu has promised to sustain the existing cordial relationship between the institution and Wolverhampton Health Trust for mutual benefits.
Prof. Akpagu made the pledge in his office during a courtesy call on him by a team from Wolverhampton Health Trust.
He said the partnership has been of great benefits to the institution, stressing that he would stop at nothing to sustain the partnership, which he said, has helped in expanding the frontiers of teaching and learning in the institution.
The Vice Chancellor said, ‘’ we are always looking forward to seeing your team because it has enriched our knowledge in many areas. You give us new ideas’’
Prof. Akpagu said his administration has been at the forefront of institutionalizing academic excellence, a cogent reason; he embarked on massive curriculum expansion by creating new departments and faculties.
On his part, the Team Leader, Wolverhampton Health Trust, Mr. Nick Rice described UNICAL as a reputable tertiary institution which has produced notable academics, saying the continuous partnership with the institution was due to its prominence on the global stage.
Mr. Price who described the partnership as ‘long standing’ said Wolverhampton Trust is committed towards training and re-training of staff of the institution.
According to him, four lecturers and some technical staff had been trained to further broaden their knowledge in their fields of endeavour.
He said the collaboration between UNICAL and Wolverhampton Trust would stand the test of time, disclosing that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with the institution which would span through a period of three years.
Also speaking, Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, UNICAL, Prof. Victor Ansa who led the team on the courtesy visit thanked the Vice Chancellor for always providing a conducive environment for team to function optimally.
He also commended the team for the continuous partnership even as he urged them to always see UNICAL as their home.
