32 political parties reject APC's Owan Enoh, deny endorsing him

Sen. John Owan Enoh

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Cross River State chapter, has taken a swipe at the January 3, 2019 Purported adoption of a factional governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Sen. John Owan Enoh by eight political parties and accordingly, disassociated its members made up of 32 political parties from what it described as a charade.

Addressing newsmen, Monday, at the Transcorp Hotel, Calabar, Chairman of CNPP, Mr. Sunday Michael said: "We are flummoxed and aghast beyond comprehension as to why a politician  in the class of Sen. John Owan Enoh will be so gullible and or perhaps out of desperation to govern the state be so deceived by inconsequential political scavengers, impersonators and desperados."

On the need to clear the air on the position of CNPP on the purported adoption, Michael said: "Ordinarily, we will not have dissipated our energy and precious time to respond to a meaningless adoption, however, we have to set the records straight so as not to misinform treasured and adorable good people of Cross River State."

While setting the record straight, the chairman allows: "The said adoption was attended by 12 political parties and not 15 as it was so claimed. Of the 12 parties, six were impersonators and impostors. That is to say only six out of 12 parties were in attendance."

Continuing, he said: "The chairmen of the misrepresented parties are here to refute all claims with some ready to suspend their governorship candidates for adopting an unsellable candidate and for anti party activities.

"Secondly, on what basis was Sen. Owan Enoh adopted as a consensus candidate when he and Dr. Usani Usani are laying  claims to the same  candidature?"

Questioning what it described as a sham, the group quipped: "Who authorized the eight governorship candidates to carry out the adoption when chairmen of the said parties have since denied their involvement in the said adoption."

While accusing the factional governorship candidate, Owan Enoh, of being self-seeking, the group said: "With 20 years as a legislator what has the senator done for his people to justify the so called endorsement.

"Gentlemen of the press, here with us in this hall are 32 political parties, their chairmen, over 15 gubernatorial candidates and 320 selected excos of the 32 political parties including eight political parties that were criminally mentioned in the charade called endorsement.

"The question then is , who adopted sen. Owan Enoh?"

Others who spoke included the Chairman of the state chapter of the Alliance for Social Democrats,  Pastor Tony Bassey.

According to Bassey, his party which was said to be among those that adopted Owan-Enoh, has since denied being a part of it.

"Our noble party has dissociated ourselves from this action and as such wish to state clearly that we are not part of this, and never delegated anyone to on our behalf represent us in the said adoption of Senator John Owan Enoh, the gubernatorial candidate  of the APC in Cross River State as it is being reported in different newspapers. We therefore demand for explanation and apologies immediately."

Bassey further noted that "This action of using our party's name and logo for an adoption of a candidate of another party without proper and due consultation with our Party leadership, whether at the state or national level to seek clearance amounts to an individualistic action and condemnable  in all ramifications."
