The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Cross River State, Mr. Eyo Ekpo has dismissed reports that his party has adopted Gov. Ben Ayade of the PDP as its candidate in the March 9 governorship election.

The SDP governorship campaign organization in a statement by the Director General, Ambo Ekpenyong said that the purported endorsement of Ayade was orchestrated by some mischievous SDP members.

It will be recalled that the 18 Chapter Chairmen of the SDP in the state  and some State Executives of the party on Monday endorsed Ayade as the their candidate for the forthcoming election.

The SDP governorship campaign organization has however insisted that their candidate, Eyo Ekpo was still in race.

"This purported endorsement (of Ayade) is a scam orchestrated by some mischievous elements and it is a pity that the present government could not see it for what it clearly is. Perhaps they were too eager for a win- any win, to the effect that they embarrassingly grasped at straws.

The meeting was with their supposed allies who masqueraded as members and leaders of the SDP with some even going as far as to invent fake titles all in a desperate bid to fabricate authenticity.

We are not deceived, their goal is to trick the teeming supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), into thinking that the PDP is the only party that exists in Cross River State.

I also want to let people know that the SDP is ready to stand for this elections on Saturday", the statement reads in part.
