Ayade receives best health Govervnor award, clears Beta Edu for higher appointment

Cross River State Govervnor, Prof. Ben Ayade has said that the Director General of the State's Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Beta Edu has done enough to earn herself higher appointment in his second term which is beginning today, May 29, 2019.

Ayade stated this on Monday during the agency's 2019 dinner and award night in his honour as Nigeria's best performing Governor in health.

The Govervnor, represented by his Deputy Prof. Ivara Esu who is also the State's Chairman, Immunisation Taskforce warned health workers in the state that henceforth, they will be held accountable for every death recorded in any Primary Health Center or Community in Cross River State.

He said that "It is a very significant night in the last four years in the health sector where labor and hard work is rewarded".

The Govervnor also lauded the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong for her good work in repositioning of healthcare in Cross River State to great heights.

The agency also launched the Local Government Health Authorities, Minimum service package, maternal and child emergency in all Primary Health Centres and communities at the award night.

The representative of the Governor, Prof. Esu also received award of Excellence for his "unprecedented support to healthcare especially Immunisation in the state. 

The Wife of the Governor, Dr Linda Ayade was also awarded as an Icon of Healthcare in Nigeria for "her unprecedented support to primary health care revitalization".

Speaker of the state house of assembly, Rt. Hon John Gaul Lebo who received award of excellence in his remarks said that domestication of primary healthcare in Cross River State was to make quality and accessible healthcare closer to the people in grassroots.

He noted that there was no better recipient of the award than sterling healthcare workers who provide services even in time of crises and communal war.

While receiving an award of honour, on behalf of the state ministry of Health as best supporting MDA, Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong describe the performance of Cross River State  healthcare delivery as phenomenal especially in reducing maternal and newborn mortality, HIV prevalent and quakery. 

She lauded the recipients for their steadfastness and commitment to healthcare delivery.

Earlier, the DG Dr. Edu who was equally honoured with award of meritorious services and sterling performance said the essence of the dinner was to honour those who have sacrificed their efforts, time and energy for the betterment of primary healthcare in Cross River State and to officially inaugurate the Local Government Healthcare Authorities with the declaration of maternal and child emergency in all PHC and communities.

She said that "The award cut across those who died in active services (post hummus award), best performing retirees, Primary Healthcare Coordinators with best sterling performance, best PHC performing Local Government Area, Best Healthcare worker, Best Agency Staff and management staff, Most supportive development partners and supporting HOLGA in Primary Healthcare".

The climax of the event was the unveiling and launching of the Cross River State Minimum service package for Primary Healthcare and inauguration of the local government health authorities Directors.

Development Partners such as UNICEF,  WHO,  UNFPA,  ECEWS, AIDS Healthcare Foundation,  Pathfinders were all given certificates of appreciation for their support and drive to the improvement of primary healthcare in Cross River State.
