Sen. Omo Ovie-Agege, New Deputy Senate President

The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Sen. Omo Ovie-Agege has floored the immidiate past Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu to emerge the new deputy Senate President.

Ovie-Agege, the preferred candidate of the ruling APC won with a total of 68 votes against Ekweremadu of the PDP who garnered 37 votes.

The total number of votes casted were 106 but one vote was declared invalid.

Recall that APC preferred candidate, Sen. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan representating Yobe North, earlier defeated the PDP backed candidate, Ali Ndume with 79 votes to 28.
