Fuel Scarcity : C'River assembly to hold emergency meeting today

Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Williams, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly

The Cross River State House of Assembly has announced an emergency meeting for today, Tuesday, June 25, to intervene in the crisis in the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN which is responsible for the ongoing fuel scarcity in the state.

The message is contained in a release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the assembly, Mr Hope Obeten.

The statement states that the meeting is to address a "matter of urgent public interest, to meet with relevant stakeholders in the petroleum sector, to resolve the lingering issue which has led to the current fuel scarcity" in the state.

It could be recalled that penultimate week, an undue scarcity of petroleum products was experienced by motorists and commuters in Cross River State with reports indicating that the scarcity was following a fallout of election crisis in the petroleum products marketers' union.

According to Mr Obeten, "the Speaker of the 9th Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Eteng Williams considers the well being of Cross Riverians paramount and as such, the lingering scarcity of petroleum products in the state which has brought untold hardship to the citizenry should be attended to immediately".
