23MW power plant : Marian market fire outbreak responsible for outage


The Cross River State Government has explained that the cut in power supply from the 23 megawatts  power in the last 24 hours is due to a fire outbreak in Marian Market, Calabar.

Recall that the state was agog few days ago when the state government launched the 23 megawatts power plant which supplied uninterrupted power for over 72 hours to residents of Calabar metropolis.

However, in the last 24 hours the power plant was shutdown because of the fire outbreak in Marian market which according to a statement by Mr. Christian Ita, Cheif Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade affected some transmission cable.

While explaining that the plant was shutdown to minimise more damages, Ita added that  a team of Engineers have been dispatched to address the issue. 

According to the statement "The Cross River State Government wishes to inform the general public that the cut in power supply from the 23 megawatts Calabar Power plant in the last 24 hours to the Calabar metropolis is due to a fire outbreak at the Marian market which affected some transmission cables.

The power plant had to be shut down to minimise damage caused by the inferno.

A team of engineers is currently working round the clock to fix the problem.

Power will be restored as soon as this is done.

Government regrets the inconveniences this has caused residents of the metropolis".
