Why peace corps is tackling climate change- C'River commandant


The Cross River State commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Patriot Okweche Dominic Odey has revealed that the corps has embarked on a tree planting campaign to tackle climate change.

Okweche made this known in Calabar during a peace awareness campaign as part of preparation for world peace day coming up in September 21

He said no nation will experience any form of development without peace, hence the youths need to be engaged in peace building.

"What you see happening today is part of our preparation for the world peace day coming up in September

"This year's theme is the role of peace in environmental protection. The peace corps of Nigeria is at the forefront in tackling climate change

"In Cross River, we were among the first to key into the tree planting initiative of Governor Ayade. We have planted a large number of trees to protect the environment.

"we have deployed our men to all the communities to champion this cause.

"I want to appreciate the governor of our dear state for fostering peace and harmony. Every resident of this state sleeps with both eyes closed.

"Fighting climate change is a collective responsibility," he said.
