JUST IN : Another Win for Akpagu as Unical Alumni President Emerges Executive Secretary Committee of VCs

The administration of Prof. Zana Akpagu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (Unical) has recorded another huge victory as the National President of the University's Alumni Association, Prof. Yakubu Aboki Ochefu has emerged the new Executive Secretary, Committee of Nigeria Vice Chancellors.

Prof. Akpagu who broke the news exclusively to our reporter said that Prof. Ochefu will resume work on the 4th of November, 2019.

Ochefu, a renowned schoolar and former Vice Chancellor of Kwararafa University was elected few months ago as the National President of Unical Alumni association.

The Unical VC while reacting congratulated Prof. Ochefu saying that he has no doubt that the Committee was getting the best and right man for the job.

He added that he is very proud and happy that Prof. Ochefu is not just an alumnus of the University but the President of the Alumni association.

He promised his support and that of the University to ensure he succeeds in his new assignment while wishing him opportunity for higher responsibilities in the future.

The development has attracted alot of commendation and applause for the Vice Chancellor who played a major role in Ochefu's emergence as one of the key members of the committee. Students and staff alike have hailed the VC for his efforts in putting Unical in limelight always for positive reasons.

Speaking, Director, Centre for General studies of the University, Dr. Uti Egbai said that the University was very fortunate and blessed to have a dedicated administrator like Prof. Akpagu as VC.

He said that Akpagu's reign has confirmed the biblical assertion that when the righteous are in power, the people rejoice.

According to him "Prof. Akpagu has attracted too many good things to the University. Like some students said some months ago, if it were lawful for his tenure to last beyond five years, I've no doubt that many people will want him to continue doing the good job he's doing.

"The passion he has for Unical is obviously what is driving him because remember he became VC when Nigeria faced one of her worst recessions ever. With him in the Committee, we always knew he will fought for Unical interest. So, I want to specially commend him for all the good jobs especially, the emergence of our Alumni President".

Joshua Ene, a student of the University was also full of praises for the Vice Chancellor. 

He said that "I'm a final year student now and I can't wait to become part of the Alumni association. Since our VC came on board, he has restructured the association and has even created a special directorate for the association. 

In ensuring that the association gets the recognition and leadership direction required for an Alumni of a university like Unical, he sourced for the best to be President and today, he is to resume work as Executive Secretary, Committee of VCs. The VC and the Alumni President are great inspiration to us students because we believe that if they can reach the level they are now, we too can get there or even better".
