Lawmaker lauds CR-IRS strides in improving State's IGR

By Kingsley Agim

Lawmaker and Member, House Committee on Finance and Appropriations, Hon. (Barr.) Chris Njah Mbu-Ogar, has lauded the leadership of the Cross River Internal Revenue Service for its strides in improving the State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Hon. Mbu-Ogar gave the commendation when the Finance and Appropriations Committee of the House of Assembly met with the leadership of the Cross River Internal Revenue Service recently in Calabar.

"I commend the Chairman of the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Akpanke Ogar, for the remarkable work he has been doing, especially in surpassing the State's Internally Generated Revenue benchmark and easing the tax burden on Cross Riverians," the legislator remarked.

"His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade is particularly passionate about the economy of the State. That is why he has emphasised  on the spirit of enterprise to be inculcated in every Cross Riverian, hence his administration's lofty strides in infrastructural development, agriculture and  industrialization," he continued.

Hon. Mbu-Ogar, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Commerce and Industry, Public Private Partnership and Privatisation and Member representing Etung State Constituency in the 9th Cross River State House of Assembly, enjoined the Akpanke Ogar-led Service to redouble its efforts and expand more frontiers in the State's IGR in order to aid Governor Ayade's quest to decouple Cross River from over-dependence from Federal Allocation, describing the IRS as the lifeblood of any administration.

Re-echoing the commitment of the Hon. Sunday Aachunekang-led Finance and Appropriations Committee, the outspoken lawmaker quipped: "will not rest on our oars and will continue to support the Cross River Internal Revenue Service in  formulating tax policies to encourage and sustain economic growth in the State."
