C'River Assembly moves to recover 'looted' funds from ex-LG officials

The Cross River State House of Assembly has vowed to recover all public funds not accounted for by local government officials in the state between 2011-2015.

Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts and Member representing Obubra 1 state constituency, Rt. Hon. Okpechi Friday Gabriel, stated this during the appearance of officials from Etung and Ikom before the Committee in the ongoing verification of Audited accounts of local governments.

Okpechi frawned at the attitude of non-retirements of financial advances granted officials and other transactions carried through shortcuts or without due process.

On his part, Vice Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Bekwarra, Hon. Edward Ajang, charged functionries of Local Government Councils to cooperate with the Committee and ensure all defaulters are invited for questioning.

He added that the 9th Assembly is very concerned about the prudent management of public funds.

In his response, the Head of Local Government Administration, (HOLGA) in Ikom, Mr. Julius Adie promised to carry out the Committee's directives accordingly.
