COVID-19 : DG BORDERCOM, SSA North Shutdown borders in northern Cross River

In a bid to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic from other neighbouring states into Cross River State, the Director General of BORDERCOM, Mr. Noel Ugbong in collaboration with the State Security Adviser (SSA) North, Mr. Leo Inyambe have closed all the external borders in the Northern Senatorial District of the state.
The duo over the past weeks have been traversing the length and breadth of the zone which is estimated to have over 70 communities with external borders.
According to a source familiar with the development, the Senior Government officials were said to have been moving from one border community to another sensitising the public on government directives to guide against the outbreak of the virus.
The source who also revealed that borders from the remotest part of Yala to the Obanliku International border with the Cameroon Republic were closed added that they raised volunteers in the communities visited to man the borders as well as enforce the No Mask, No Movement directives of the Governor.
Speaking, the SSA commended the gallant men of the Nigeria Army, Police, MOPOL 75 and Civil Defense for their cooperation and sacrifice.
On his part ,the DG BORDERCOM said the success of the exercise was largely due to the cooperation of the Communities leaders especially the youths.
He also lauded Health Workers in the area saying that they have not rested since the border closure exercise commenced.
