Easter : Our new history will begin with the resurrection of Christ - Akpagu

Prof. Zana Akpagu, Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar

Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (Unical), Prof. Zana Akpagu has charged Nigerians not to loose hope in the country as her old history was buried and a new one rewritten with the resurrection of Christ.

Akpagu in a statement issued in Calabar said that although Nigeria and the world at large is going through a very challenging time, there was no cause to fear as God has given his children power over every situation.

He maintained that this year's Easter Celebration should be a moment of deep reflection where both leaders and the lead
reflect on their actions and inactions and strive to make the necessary amends for the overall benefit of the country and world at large.

"I want to start by wishing all staff and students of the prestigious University of Calabar a very wonderful Easter Celebration. The times are really challenging but I want to urge them not to allow the temporary challenges affect the joy that comes with the resurrection of Christ.

To the General public especially people of the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State who are currently mourning the unfortunate demise of our sister, friend, mother and Senator, Late Dr. Rose Oko, I urge them all to remain courageous and steadfast. The times are really challenging but together, we shall come out stronger.

"I want to encourage every Nigerian not to loose hope in this country. We're not there yet but we're making steady progress to getting there. Building a nation is not a journey of few miles. We may have made some mistakes in the past but I've confidence in what the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is doing to get us back to the right track", the statement reads in part.

While urging Christians to show love to one another as well as pray for leaders, he added that "As Christians, we need to at all times pray to God to show us and our leaders the right direction. The bible in 1Timothy 1:2 admonishes us to always pray and intercede for those in position of authority.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging the world, although, there's hunger in the land but God we will help us surmount all these challenges. As we continue to love one another and pray for our leaders, God will show us mercy and begin our new history with the resurrection of Christ".
