Ex-C'River Assembly Member's Son, Others Arrested For Robbery In Calabar


The newly inaugurated joint military/police squad, Operation Akpakwu yesterday arrested a son of a former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly and two others for robbery in Calabar, Cross River State capital.


The name of the suspect and the former assembly member were however not mentioned but the robbers were arrested with a Hyundai Sonata car with official government plate number, CR97-A09.

A source who pleaded not to be mentioned said that a reliable source in the taskforce which comprised of the military, Police and personnel of Civil Defense Corps revealed the news to him.

According to him" a reliable source from Operation Akpakwu in Calabar has it that a 6 man gang robbery attacked a policeman last night at gun point and luck ran out of them when Operation Akpakwu got the information and immediately chased after them.

"The robbers were chased from State Housing by Chief Obot street while they were shooting sporadically. During the process of chasing after them by the Operation Akpakwu team, the driver of the armed robbery vehicle lost control and ran into a deep gutter.

"Three of the armed robbers were arrested, the other three escaped, one of them had bullet wounds. The son to a former House of Assembly member was the person who drove the car the robbers used for the operation".
