FASA Business Summit : Four Lucky Unical Students To Receive N.8m Grant From JUO Foundation

Chairman of JUO Foundation, Mr. John Upan Odey

The John Upan Odey Foundation, (JUOF) has announced that four students of the Faculty of Arts, University of Calabar (Unical), Calabar will be supported with N800, 000 with each getting N200, 0000 to startup businesses of their choice.

Chairman of the foundation and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State, Mr. John Upan Odey disclosed this on Friday while presenting the keynote address at the just concluded Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) business summit.

Odey who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Hyers Capital Limited encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities in the business world and don't depend solely on their degrees upon graduation.

He charged them to take entrepreneurship more seriously by creating time to learn different trades so that when they leave school they'll become job creators and not job seekers.

While thanking the leadership of the association for organizing such event, he called on the students to develop creative and innovative ideas as the world is now looking for people with practical solutions to problems and not just those with papers.

Odey said that "in today’s Nigeria, it is essential to support and encourage our young ones. I had the pleasure of speaking to students of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calabar yesterday during "FASA BUSINESS SUMMIT 2021."

The JU Odey Foundation will be supporting four of them with the brightest business cases to start their entrepreneurial journey".

Reacting, the President of the Association, Emmanuel Awor said that "on behalf of Students of Faculty of Arts Students, University of Calabar, I wish to sincerely appreciate the CEO of Hyers Capital, Mr. John U. Odey for his show of uncommon love for Nigerian students nay youths.

His epoch making speech served as an eye opener to those who were present, as he presented bare facts about the Nigerian economy, how one can grow in entrepreneurship, the innovative framework of businesses, amongst other pivotal information that can be instrumental to a person's development".

Awor added that "in his goodwill, he deemed it fit to motivate students beyond words, by making a promise to give out two hundred thousand naira each to four students as start up funding for their businesses, provided they scale through a contest that will be organized by the leadership of the Association.

It is important I admit that with the likes of Mr. John Odey, the youths will be presented with great opportunities to prepare ahead of the future, as he cares about young minds and how they can be financially independent. This particular, is a great service to the Nation, as youths are a great part of Nation building.

Students whom I have had the privilege to speak with after the summit, expressed their love for Mr. John Odey, as they admire the gaiety of his speech, his uncommon intelligence and the simplicity which he embodies"
