Why I want To Be C'River Central First Female Senator- Ekpere, APC Senatorial Aspirant

Leading All Progressives Congress, APC Aspirant for Cross River Central Senatorial District, Barr. Mary Ekpere has said that her ambition is burned out of deep-seated love for her people and a strong desire to contribute to their progress.

In a declaration speech made available to newsmen, the immediate past Director-General of the National Centre For Women Development said that if elected as the first female Senator from the Senatorial district, she will leverage her experience and network in national politics to attract life-changing projects and interventions to her people.

The Senatorial aspirant who was one of the contestants for the National Women Leadership position but withdrew for the eventual winner, Dr. Betta Edu after intervention from party leaders, maintained that her ambition is not a fallout of the women leader's contest but a genuine call to serve.

She said that "Majority are aware that I ran for the office of National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently, but I put the stability and cohesiveness of our party above my ambition to support the eventual emergence of our sister, Dr. Betta Edu.

Party leaders knowing my pedigree, first, as a social entrepreneur and a founding member of our great party, convinced me that I can serve women and Nigerians in general in other capacities, nevertheless my running for Senate under the platform of the APC is simply no recourse to Plan B, but a genuine call to service".

Ekpere maintained that "indeed, I have stepped out to offer myself for service to our people in Cross River Central Senatorial District because the people first called me. As one with a deep love for our people and a strong desire to contribute to their progress, prosperity, and well-being, I could have served in any capacity but the calls to contribute my quota to the development of our people from the Senate were overwhelming, hence my respectfully heeding the call.

At this juncture of our history as a people, I am best suited for the job of speaking for us in the Red Chamber and attracting life-changing projects, programmes and interventions to our land".

While giving accounts our her achievements as Director General, she avered that "For FOUR YEARS as Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) Abuja, I MASTERED women and youth EMPOWERMENT. Those years also molded me as a voice of the voiceless, advocating for women, the aged, persons with disabilities, and youths.

I also improved my skills in negotiation, attracting and funding impactful projects and programme as well as the formulation of workable policies. Also in my kitty are good working connections to national leaders, heads of Ministries, Agencies, and Departments as well as local and international donor agencies/NGOs working here in Nigeria.

I pledge to speak up for my people in the Senate and to use my expertise and far-reaching contacts to improve the lives of our people. To our delegates who will participate in the APC primary and our people, I reiterate that I am fully committed to human capital development, empowering youths and women, and creating jobs and better opportunities for the good people of Cross River Central Senatorial District".
