Nigerian Bishop Elected President of Board of Bishops of A.M.E Zion Church

Bishop Uduak Effiong, the head of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (A.M.E) has been elected as the President of the Board of Bishops of the Church.
Effiong, a professor with the University of Cross River State was elected yesterday February 12, 2025 in Mobile, Alabama, USA during the ongoing Winter meeting of the Board of Bishops.
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, founded in 1796 in New York, USA is governed by the Board of Bishops, each bishop elected to serve as President for a term in rotation.
The Cross River born clergy was elected and consecrated a bishop in July, 2016 at Greensboro, North Carolina, USA as the 2nd Nigerian and 5th African to have been so elevated in the life of the denomination.
Reacting to his election as President, he said that “by his grace, I am privileged to be elected as the President of the Board of Bishop, being the 2nd Nigerian to so be privileged since 1796! This is the Lord’s doing.”
