Prof. Bassey, noted that the committee's report will enable her identify and tackle the root causes of the university's problems, rather than just addressing the symptoms.

She stated, "Governor Bassey Otu sent me here to work; he wants me to address the root causes of some of the challenges confronting the university and not just the symptoms or consequences of the problems. The committee has one month to submit their report.

All my life, I've spent in the university, so I know what it takes to build a great university. The job is tasky, but I love challenges, and I'm embracing this one with a lot of enthusiasm. This university deserves nothing but the very best, and I'm here to help the Governor reposition the institution to become one of the best."

In the same vein, the VC has assured staff and students that their welfare will be given top priority under her administration. She stated this while speaking at different fora with staff and leadership of the students’ union government.

She noted that her appointment, coming directly from the Governor's office, indicates Governor Otu's commitment to implementing his People's First agenda in the institution.

While noting that the Governor Otu's support for the university predates his current office with the facilitation of the administrative block as an example, She expressed optimism about the state government’s support now that he serves as Visitor to the university.
