Gov. Otu Donates N120M, Car at Bishop Akpan’s 40th Priesthood Anniversary
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has donated N120 million towards the construction of a new cathedral in Ogoja.
The donation was announced during the 40th priesthood anniversary celebration of His Lordship, Very Reverend Bishop Donatus Edet Akpan, Bishop of Ogoja Diocese. The Governor was represented at the event by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Ph.D.
Additionally, Governor Otu gifted a brand-new car to Fr. Peter Obele. Political allies of the Governor also contributed N18 million to support the Governor’s donation for the cathedral project.
The breakdown of the support includes five million from Hon. Peter Akpanke, Member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency, five million from Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, Akpanke’s predecessor and two million from Hon. Victor Abang, Member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency.
Others are five million from Northern Cross River House of Assembly members, additional five hundred thousand Naira from Hon. Thomas Aruku, Member representing Ogoja State Constituency, two million from the Chairmen of the five Northern Local Government Areas and five hundred thousand from Raphael Odu, Director General of Homeland Security.
In a related development, media reports indicate that the Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District and leader of a faction of the opposition PDP in the state, Sen. Jarigbe Agom also made contributions towards the project.
