Former Abia Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has lauded the Senate’s confirmation of Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as a Minister of the Federal Republic, describing the move as a pivotal step toward stabilizing Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.
Speaking following a plenary session on Wednesday, the former Senate Chief Whip emphasized that the legislative engagement with the new Minister was a masterclass in economic diagnostic, focusing on the urgent reforms needed to stimulate national growth.
Senator Kalu highlighted that the confirmation of Oyedele a renowned tax expert and former Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms comes at a critical juncture.
"Today at the Senate, we fulfilled our constitutional responsibility by confirming Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as a Minister. We had a robust engagement on the state of the economy and the fiscal reforms required to move the country forward. His expertise is exactly what we need to bridge the gap between policy design and practical economic stability." the Lawmaker said.
During the screening, Oyedele outlined strategies for broadening the revenue base beyond oil and addressing the "trust deficit" in government contracting points Kalu noted were essential for restoring investor confidence.
Similarly, Senator Kalu also officially welcomed three distinguished colleagues who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the session.
The New APC Senators are Senator Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North), Senator Aminu Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central) and Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (Zamfara Central).
9japarrot reports that their defection follows the recent political realignment in Adamawa State led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and a similar wave in Zamfara State involving Governor Dauda Lawal.
Kalu remarked that the entry of these three lawmakers into the ruling party is a clear indicator that the APC’s "Renewed Hope" agenda is gaining traction across party lines.
"Their decision further strengthens our party and reflects a growing commitment within the Senate to support policies and reforms aimed at stabilizing and growing Nigeria’s economy," He added.
With these latest defections, the APC moves closer to a two-thirds majority in the Senate, significantly boosting the executive-legislative synergy required to pass landmark economic and security legislations.
