C'River LG Polls Would Be An 'Acid' Test For APC-Ochicha

Mr. Odey Ochicha

The forthcoming Local Government elections in Cross River State has been described by Mr. Odey Ochicha as "an acid test" for his party, the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Ochicha who stated this in a statement issued in Calabar urged APC members to unite and work as a team to takeover the control of the local government administration ahead of 2019 general elections.

The APC chieftain who regretted that governors have reduced council affairs to become like a state agency however added that it is the closest tier of government to the people and therefore should be given more attention and taken more seriously.

According to the statement, "Local Government Election in Cross River would be an Acid Test for APC and so members should unite to work as a team to win more chairmanship and councillor seats".

He said APC cannot afford to allow PDP have a landslide victory as was the case in the past and therefore the leadership of the party should ensure they field credible and popular candidates in the election.

Ochicha, a former governorship candidate of the party charged the state government to conduct free, fair and credible LG election.
"APC should be vigilant to ensure the state government conducts free, fair and credible polls. The state electoral umpire should prevent all illegalities associated with past polls", the statement reads in part.
