UNICAL Pro-Chancellor Lauds Zana's Achievements, Pledges Synergy

The new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, University of Calabar, Calabar (UNICAL) Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has lauded  the commitment and achievements of the Vice Chancellor, VC, Prof. Zana Akpagu.

Nwaogu who stated this when the VC led Principal Officers of the university on a courtesy visit to her in Abuja pledged to synergize with the Zana led management to sustain what she described as great "developmental strides".

The Pro-chancellor added that her priority would be to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure sustainable and continues positive development of the institution.

While pledging to operate an open door policy, she explained that her appointment was a homecoming of sorts because she is an Old Girl of Edgerley Memorial Girls' Secondary School, Calabar.

Sen. Nwaogu thanked President Mohammadu Buhari for giving her the opportunity to serve as a Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of UNICAL.

In his remarks, the VC congratulated the Pro-Chancellor on her appointment even as he promised to create an enabling environment for her to succeed.

Akpagu expressed confidence that the Pro-chancellor will bring her wealth of knowledge and experience to bear in the discharge of her new assignment.

The meeting climaxed in a briefing by the VC on the happenings in the university and the modest efforts of the management in rooting out mediocrity for excellence.

It will be recalled that Sen. Nwaogu was a two-term member of the Nigerian Senate during which time she served as Chairman, Senate Committees on Banking and Gas.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, she was instrumental to the creation of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON. She was also member of the House of Representatives.

Those who formed part of  the team for the visit were all the Principal Officers, the two Deputy VCs, Prof. Austen Obiekezie Director, Centre for Research and Quality Assurance, Dr. James Ukpiliya, Director Centre for Educational Services and Dr. Bette Enu, Director of Academic Planning.

Others were Mr. Nicholas Agbo Director of Audit, Mr. Simon Ajom, Director of Physical Planning, Dr. Joseph Ekpang, Chairman, Board of Media and Community Relations and Mr. Daniel Onihana, Liaison Officer.
