Prof. Ikpeme A. Ikpeme, Chief Medical Director, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar

Prof. Ikpeme Asanye Ikepme, the recently appointed Chief Medical  Director (CMD) of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) was born on the 1st of February, 1966  in Eniong Abatim, Odukpani local government area of Cross River State.

Ikpeme, a thorough breed medical practitioner completed his basic and secondary education at Cross River State School of Basic Studies, Akamkpa and Government Secondary School, Ikom, in 1983 and 1986 respectively. He proceeded to the School of Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Benin-city, where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1991.

At the Postgraduate level, he studied Business Administration at the University of Calabar. He made the best overall result in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and winner of the Tony Elumelu Foundation Prize for Best MBA, University of Calabar in 2013. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management.

From 1995-2000, Prof. Ikpeme did a
Postgraduate Residency Training in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. He proceeded in 2001 to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu where he passed the Residency Part II Fellowship Examination in Orthopaedics in 2002.

Between 2008-2009, he was in the Department of Orthopaedics, Assiut University, Egypt for SICOT/Assiut  University Young Surgeons Training Fellowship. He proceeded in 2012 for another training in Total Hip Replacement (Surgival Grupo Cosais) in Spain.

His quest for education never stopped as he proceeded for another post fellowship training in the Department of Orthopaedics, St. George University Teaching Hospital, Szekeshferhervar, Hungary in 2017 for a training in Joint Replacement.

Iekpme has a Certificate in Leadership and Management in Health from the University of Washington, USA in 2016.

He is a Fellow,  West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and International College of Surgeons (FICS).

Ikpeme, a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Calabar is a specialist in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery with a cross-disciplinary training in clinical medicine and Management.

With over two decades of experience and training, spanning five countries (Nigeria, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Spain and Hungary), Ikpeme is coming into the with wealth of experience.

Ikpeme is described by his closed associates as a disciplined and reform-minded professional with commitment to, and a strong passion for improving quality of, and access to healthcare based on integrity, transparency, accountability and teamwork.

He has a strong track record of committed leadership, governance and management in healthcare.

The CMD is blessed with Excellent interpersonal relationship, management skills and resource management in the public and private sectors.

Until his appointment as the CMD, he was the Head of Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

As the HOD of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Ikpeme was renowned for his dedication to work, zero tolerance for indiscipline and laxity. He is said to have donated and, or used many personal equipments to perform official functions.

He is married and the marriage is blessed with three children.
