FADAMA Holds Training On Nutrition Education

The Cross River State FADAMA Coordination Office, has concluded training on nutrition Education in the State.
The training which was organized to educate members of the Federation of FADAMA Cooperative Associations (SFFCA) on how to diversify uses of cassava, held recently, at Cross River State Agricultural Development Conference Hall, Calabar.

In his opening remarks the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rev Unimniake Ugbe expressed delight over the introduction of new and different ways of dealing with cassava, which has become one of the most vital crop in the world, adding that the training, is apt and important to expose participants to various ways of cassava processing that will meet International Standards.

The Permanent Secretary also urged farmers to be more committed and dedicated to cassava cultivation and production, noting that in no distant time, cassava farmers and farmers in general, will become more influential and gain wide recognition in Nigeria and beyond the shores of Africa.

In her presentation, the Programme Manager, CRADP, Dr. (Mrs.) Martina Ubi speaking on Cassava  value chain stated that as a State, there is need to not only stop at Cassava production but diversify into other uses of cassava. She added that the State annual cassava production is forty-four (44) million metric tonnes while the Niger Delta region as a whole, produces eighty percent (80%) of cassava from Nigeria, stressing that cassava is a good source of food that generates not only income but useful to serve as basic pharmaceutical industries and also source for the production of Bread, Bons, Biscuits, Flour, Paint, Ethanol, fructose for soft drinks.
