Admission Into Unical Is Free - VC By Joseph Ekpang II

Prof Zana Akpagu, Unical VC
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu, has declared that, contrary to erroneous beliefs in certain quarters, admission into the institution attracts no additional fees other than those charged by the Joint Admission
and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

He made the declaration on his Whatsapp page yesterday while responding to reports making the rounds on social media that JAMB had released admission cut-offs for the 2017/18 academic year.

Prof. Akpagu made it clear that JAMB had not released any information on cut-offs and urged prospective UTME candidates to "ignore fake news about any releases from JAMB" concerning admission cut-offs.

He disclosed that for the purpose of setting admission quotas, JAMB had scheduled a meeting with Vice-chancellors on 21st and 22nd August, 2017, pointing out that "until this meeting takes place,  nothing can be done about admissions/JAMB cut-offs".

The UniCal Chief Executive noted with dismay the increasing incidence of admission fraudsters allegedly posing as agents of university management staff to dupe unsuspecting JAMB candidates.

He condemned a situation in which some of these fraudsters "will even create Facebook accounts purporting to be mine or my agents to collect money for admission".

Prof. Akpagu used the forum to reiterate  that admission into the University of Calabar was "at no cost" adding, "it is the easiest and simplest of things for me to do for anyone ".

He admonished candidates seeking admission into institutions of higher learning in Nigeria to watch out for admission fraudsters, as,  according to him, "This is the new 419" that is ripping off vulnerable Nigerians".
