Man sells two-year-old son for N150,000

The suspect, Moses Udoh

A middle-aged man, Abraham Moses Udoh, suspected to be a child trafficker, has allegedly sold his two-year-old son, Elisha Abraham for N150,000 to an unknown woman residing in Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

Parading the suspect alongside 27 others, the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, said the suspect said his inability to make ends meet with six other children and a wife to cater for forced him to sell Elisha.

Inuwa said: “On July 24, 2017, a case of child trafficking was reported by one Mrs. Esther Abraham against her husband, Abraham Moses Udoh, who stole her two year-old-boy, Elisha without her consent.

“Upon investigation, Udoh revealed that his child, Elisha, was sold by him to an unknown woman residing in Uyo for the sum of N150,000, but the sum of N103,000 was recovered from him and registered as exhibit. Investigation is in progress to arrest the alleged buyer and recover the child,” the Commissioner said.

On the whereabouts of the child, Udoh told newsmen that he does not know where the buyers have taken the child to and that he regretted his action. The suspect hails from Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State.

Inuwa added that most of those paraded have confessed to their different crimes and would be charged to court as soon as the police complete investigation.

He further disclosed that out of about 500 cases prosecuted by his command, the police had secured judgment on about 300 while others were pending. “From February this year when I took over as Commissioner, we have arrested at least 500 suspects and more than 300 suspects have been charged to court.

“Between the period under review, we have arrested 27 suspects while the following items were recovered: five locally-made pistols, one makarov pistol, one locally-made revolver pistol, three rounds live cartridge, one Nokia 105 handset, one HTC handset, the sum of N268,000, one Infinix handset, one Samsung mobile phone among others.”

The Commissioner appealed to members of the public to collaborate with the police in terms of giving useful information, adding that, “police cannot accomplish the set goals without collaborative efforts of members of the public.”
