Peace Corps Will Address Nigeria Security Challenges - Cross River Commandant

The Cross River State Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Patriot Okweche Dominic has assured Nigerians that the organization will address Nigeria's security challenges when it gets the full support of the government.

Okweche who stated this during a 'Thank you' rally organized in Calabar to appreciate the National Assembly for the passage of the bill establishing the organization said that there's more to security than bearing of arms.

He said that of the security issues confronting Nigeria cannot be resolved with arms therefore Peace Corps was coming to support the efforts of the existing security outfits in combating crime through intelligent policing.



While lauding the doggedness and commitment of the National Assembly towards the passage of the Bill, the Commandant said that the lawmakers and the President, Muhammadu Buhari, have the interest of Nigerians at heart which is why they have collectively ensured that the Bill is passed, to create employment for the teeming youths.

The Commandant who said the organization which was established 19 years ago has its overall mandate as a neighborhood watch, as well as fight crimes in the society added that officers and men of the Corps are well trained and combat ready at any time.


He commended Governor Ben Ayade for the support and cooperation particularly, the provision of vehicles and office accommodation to the organization.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Projects, Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr Thomas Aruku, assured of the state government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and creating more job opportunities for the youths of the state.

Director of Operations of the State’s Homeland Security, Mr Raphael Odu, said security is everybody’s business and called on the citizens to work with security agencies in the state to tackle the challenge of insecurity.
