Unical, Cameroon Consul To Strengthen Ties

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) and Consul of the Republic of Cameroon have expressed readiness to strengthen its diplomatic ties in the area of education.

Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Zana Akpagu made this known in his
office during a courtesy call on him by the Consul of the Republic of Cameroon to Calabar, His Excellency Michel Auguste Atangana.

Prof. Zana Akpagu underscored the need for a cordial relationship between the institution and the Cameroon Consul, adding that a robust relationship will contribute in no small measure to educational advancement, which he said, would be of mutual benefit to both parties.

He said the cordial relationship existing between the institution and the Cameroon Consul has made Cameroonian nationals to come to UNICAL for academic pursuits even as he called for sustenance of such relationship to attract more students from Cameroon to the institution.

The Vice Chancellor said, ‘’ we are happy to have you in our midst. We have had a cordial relationship with Cameroon which has helped us take care of your students.

‘’Before now we use to have a large number of Cameroonian students but it has dropped for some time now and that is why I want us to use the opportunity of the meeting to renew our friendship.

‘’let the young people come to UNICAL because we have opportunities here to train them’’

Speaking earlier, Consul of the Republic of Cameroon to Calabar, His Excellency Michel Auguste Atangana thanked the Vice Chancellor for the warm reception and pledged to partner with the institution in the promotion of academic excellence.

Atangana said he was particularly impressed with the developmental strides of the Vice Chancellor, stressing that UNICAL has carved a niche for itself as a reputable institution.

He promised to maintain the relationship that exist between the institution and the Cameroon Consulate, which he believed, would be of utmost benefit to both parties especially in the area of education.
