Unical To Partner US Institutions On Technology As Influential Mayor Visits

Unical VC, Prof. Zana Akpagu
The University of Calabar (Unical) is set to partner with relevant Institutions in the United States in the area of technology.

This was discussed during a recent visit of the Mayor of the City of Kenton, Ohio, USA, Pastor Randy J. Manns to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zana Akpagu.

Prof. Akpagu in his remarks said that the University was open to exploring areas of collaboration from which the Institution can benefit from such expertise.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the Varsity's commitment to enhancing academic excellence and knowledge exchange through collaborations and linkages that would involve staff and students exchange programmes.

While directing the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Joseph Ekpang to further interface with the Mayor and bring up a proposal, he added that consideration could be given to Pharmacy, Engineering and Mass Communication programmes as a pilot scheme.

Lending his voice to the discourse, Dr. Ekpang informed the Vice Chancellor that the Mayor had visited the Institution five years ago with a view to facilitating a linkage that will include staff and student exchange with the Northern University, Ohio.

He regretted however that, in spite of the best efforts of both parties, that opportunity was yet to yield any dividend.

In an earlier remark, the two-time Mayor of Kenton told the Vice Chancellor that he was desirous of connecting the University to partner with relevant Institutions in the United States in the area of technology.

Pastor Manns said his goal is to facilitate such linkage from where the experts can take over, adding that, he has a very strong conviction that such collaborations portend tremendous benefits to the institutions involved.

The Mayor used the opportunity to commend Prof. Akpagu for his good works and disposition towards academic excellence, integrity, hardwork, and infrastructural development, as well as, staff and students welfare even as he offered prayers for wisdom, strength and protection for him and his team.
