2019 : Four years enough for me to write my name in gold - Hon. Adah

APC governorship aspirant, Rt. Hon. Paul Adah
Governorship hopeful of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Paul Adah has reiterated his commitment to zoning saying that if elected Governor, he will do one term to complete the northern senatorial district 8 years as four years  was enough time for him to write his name in gold.

Hon. Adah, a former two times house of representatives member stated this recently in Calabar during a media parley with Journalists.

Speaking about his reason to join the governorship race, the ex-lawmaker said that although he supported the incumbent, Sen. Ben Ayade in 2015, his performance has been huge a disappointment to majority of Cross Riverians hence his decision to embark on "the rescue mission".

Adah said that bad governance by the Ayade led administration has put the state in retrogression instead of progress.

He maintained that all well meaning Cross Riverians must work together to remove the incumbent as another term for him will mean doom for the state.

According to him, "Cross River of today is not the same with what former Governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke left behind. Under Imoke and Duke, Governors used to visit the Obudu cattle ranch for holidays and weekends but because Ayade has destroyed that legacy, even himself no longer go there. Those of us from Obudu feel seriously embarrassed with his performance so far and that's why today, you see six of us, three in APC and another three in his own PDP from Obudu coming out to challenge him".

He added that "I want us to rescue Cross River collectively, I can only be used as a tool. I have the drive, the passion and the capacity to move this state forward. There are a lot of things we can do that will take the place of MOUs and moving equipment from one uncompleted project to another".

Adah, the immediate past Commissioner, representing Cross River in the governing board of NDDC further said that "If you watch and allow Ayade to continue what he's doing in the next four years, Cross River state will be finished".

He maintained that "Payment of salary which Ayade is celebrating with fanfare today is not an achievement but a basic right of workers. Today, there's nothing Ayade has started and completed even in the north where he comes from".

The APC Chieftain said having worked in almost all the local governments in the state during his years in the civil service and as NDDC Commissioner, he is familiar with the challenges confronting the state and will readily address them in four years if voted as Governor.

"I worked in almost 10 local governments in the central and north as a civil servant before I joined partisan politics. NDDC brought me to this other side so I'm familiar with our peculiar problems and will address them if elected Governor. I believe in four years because for me, it's enough time to write my name in gold.

As Governor, we will revive the garri processing plant built by the military to bring Obubra and Yakur together to produce enough quantity that we can export. We will work to ensure we start exporting our plantains. We will increase our internally generated revenue. It's unfortunate that from the little we have, our revenue generated from mineral resources is not channelled properly", he said.

Speaking about the failure of the Ayade's administration to conduct local government elections, he said that " the best thing any Governor can do is to allow the local government system work because it can take the pressure from the Governor. All the communal clashes we see on daily basis today can best be tackled by the councils because they know these people and are closer to them. When the issues come up, they'll meet the right people to avert it so it doesn't degenerate into war".

On the zoning system in his party, he insisted that "those saying there is no zoning in APC are being economical with the truth. You know we just came out from a Congress to elect our party leaders. From the national to the ward levels, positions were zoned. Even the state Chairman of our party returned to the central because it was zoned there so why are people saying the governorship is not zoned to the north?

"One thing is certain, in a political party, you can't have the President or Governorship candidate from a zone that has the Chairman of the party. So, I'll continue to urge the leadership of our great party to abide by the zoning arrangement to ensure equity and justice to all zones".
