JUST IN : CRUTECH workers to shutdown varsity from tomorrow

Baring a last minuet change, workers of the Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH may shutdown the institution anytime from tomorrow over unpaid salaries.

Impeccable senior staff of the institution who revealed this to our reporter said that the workers have been "abandoned" to suffer for two months without salary.

The source said that "As we speak, if nothing is done to assuage the staff, anytime from tomorrow normal activities in the institution will be shutdown.

"Lecturers and nonacademic staff alike are going through a lot. We don't know where the problem is coming from. Governor Ben Ayade administration has done a lot in the aspect of salary payment. The Governor has even increased the university monthly subvention to enable management pay salary promptly but as we speak, we don't know whether the fault is from management or government".

Speaking further the source added that "We have not been paid July and now August salary and nobody is saying anything. How do we pay our way to work? How do we feed our families? How do we fuel our vehicles? It's such a pathetic situation".

It will be recalled that the Governor Ayade administration last year increased the University monthly subvention from N169,000 000 to N200,000 000 to enable the institution pay salaries promptly but findings show that in the past months salaries are been paid in the middle of every new month.

When contacted, the Chairman of the Varsity branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Emmanuel Etta said that the decision to shutdown activities has not been reached yet.

Etta disclosed that they will be having a Congress tomorrow where they will decide the best format to pressure home their demands.

He said that "We have not decided yet but we'll be having Congress tomorrow, so such decision to shutdown activities or not will be taken tomorrow"

Efforts to get the university authority to react was unsuccessful at news time.
