The statement reads: “The attention of Prof. Zana Akapgu, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, has been drawn to the existence of accounts on Facebook, operated by unscrupulous individuals asking unsuspecting people to call one Prof. Amaru on Post UTME  related issues."

The statement adds that "this is the handiwork of mischief makers whose aim is to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public."

Prof. Akpagu, the statement maintains, "remains absolutely committed to the institution's core values of integrity, fairness and transparency, and would always follow due process in the admission of new students. As a reputable institution which stands tall, as one of the foremost tertiary institutions in the country, we would not in any way compromise standards for financial gains."

The statement reiterated that "admission would be merit-based to ensure high quality intakes and advised members of the public to disregard the claim by these faceless elements using unverified Facebook accounts to defraud unsuspecting members of the public."

The statement concludes that "Unical only publishes Post UTME admission and other activities on the university website, newspapers, credible online platforms and not on unverified social media platforms.”
