JUST IN : C'River APC reacts to planned defection of 'original members'

The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has denied recent media report that the party is soon to witness massive defection of it members following the outcome of the just concluded primaries.

A statement by the party State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bassey Ita said there are frantic efforts by the leadership of the party to reconcile all aggrieved interests and ensure that the unity of the party is strengthened.

The statement said the party leadership was aware of the various tendencies arising from the just concluded primaries and was on top of the situation to ensure that nomalcy returns.

Mr. Ita recalled that a Reconciliation Committee has been at work while the party leadership was restrategising to ensure all tendencies are accommodated.

He however urged members to be wary of fifth columnists who are bent on polarising the party and rob the people of the state of the opportunity to be part of the glorious history of victory and change.

"Fifth columnists are throwing spanners in the works to polarise the party. There are the ones in the media in recent times with this alarming headlines of massive defection. There are no plans anywhere by any party member to defect.

"These are highly political times, and we know and expect that those who cherish their private pockets more than the collective destinies of the majority Cross River people will also throw spanners in the works. However, the assurance is that the collective destinies of the people will consistently remain stronger than these parochial tendencies".

On the choice of Sen.Owan Enoh and Ntufam Ekpo Okon as Candidates for 2019 Governorship polls, Ita said  the choice of the two was predicated on the need to wrestle power from the misgovernance of the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party and not a deliberate ploy to undermine any interest as held in certain quarters.

"To achieve extraordinary feat require extraordinary strategy. Some times, your discretion may be painful yet comfounding and successful. We must therefore learn to accept the making and outcome of providence as against our human considerations which may fraught with frailties".

The party spokesman reassured that the party will win the 2019 polls against all odds.
