Located in the south-south region of the country, the state is blessed with lots of beautiful tourist sites - such as the Ikom monolith, Obudu Cattle Ranch, Marina Resort among others.
Each year, tourists from within and outside the country pour in in their numbers to visit and also catch the glimpse of the many alluring tourist sites.
For instance, during the yelutide, Calabar, the state capital, known for its annual festival, code name 'Calabar Carnival' welcomes hundreds of tourists from all over the world
During this festival, hundreds of the visiting tourists troop to some of these beautiful sites like the Akpokim Waterfall, Obudu Ranch Resort, Mariana Resort among others
The state has not only harnessed its God-given beautiful tourist sites, but, however, built new ones of international repute. For example: the International Conference Centre, built by former governor Liyel Imoke.
Just recently, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu added the institution as one of alluring sites in the state as he brought a facelift to the university's environment.
The University now wears serene ambience from the gate through the boulevard to the main campus. Ornaments which were as old or even older than even the University have all been replaced with more modern and fascinating ones.
When Fearless Reports visited the institution last week, different alluring decorations were seen at almost all structures in the institution just as locals were busy taking photographs with the christmas-like decorations at the main gate of the University.
One captivating site is the popular and symbolic lantern at Unical roundabout which has become an attraction for fun seekers.
It's no surprise that since Prof. Akpagu came on board, Unical has always had one hundred per cent marks in Environment during accreditation visit.
However, Prof. Akpagu rapid transformation of UNICAL has attracted lots of attention from the public, and not just the decoration ahead of the Christmas celebration.
Under Prof Akpagu as VC, UNICAL has become a topnotch institution, competing favourably with its contemporaries all over the world.
Jessica Edem, a Lagos based Cross River born model who said she was holidaying in Calabar, however added that she was amazed by the facelift brought to UNICAL within a short time.
Hear her, "When I was coming home (Calabar), I was thinking of visiting places like Marina, Tinapa and may be Obudu ranch. But may cousins suggested we take a stroll to UNICAL and when we arrived I almost spent the whole day there having fun.
"Honestly, I'm fascinated by the Vice Chancellor's sense of humour. Look at the designs, the decoration".
She added: "The number of people you see here today has told the whole story. See the flowers, the grasses, mehn see the greenish environment; it's so beautiful. For me, Unical is now the number one tourist destination in Calabar and I urge people to come and see things for themselves". She urged.
Just like Jessica, many other fun lovers have the same thing to say about the new looks of the University.
A 34 year old man who introduced himself simply as Saviour said that because of the clean, serene and beautiful environment especially around the main gate of the institution, he was planning to have his engagement right in front of the beautiful decorations any time soon.
"I was looking for somewhere unique to have my engagement. The new look of Unical main gate has fit perfectly into what I was looking for. Before the Christmas, I'll take my girlfriend there and engage her.
"Prof. Akpagu has done greatly and I can tell you that there's no better place to be in Calabar now than Unical. Visit the place at night to confirm what I'm telling you", Saviour said.
